When I was at the University of Kansas, Reverend Fred Phelps and some of his lunatics from the Westboro Baptist church picketed outside of the student union protesting the schools Gay-Bi Awareness week.
My room-mate interviewed the good reverend, on camera no less, for a political science class. Lord I wish I had a copy of that tape, but here's the highlight:
Roomie: So why are you here protesting?
Phelps: In the state of Kansas, sodomy is illegal. By having a gay awareness week, the school is encouraging acceptance of an illegal act. Our protest is strictly about the law, not about liking or disliking gay people.
Roomie: Ok, so given that over 70% of the student population is under the age of 21, will you be back again to protest the Alcohol Awareness week?
Phelps: Well I... that... I mean... it's totally different!
