Apr 2011 New Computer

Postby Tendalus » Sat Apr 23, 2011 1:42 am

Hey all,

Looking for some input on a new gaming desktop.

I have a really nice monitor, and current mouse and keybord are doing just fine

But I need a total new comp, and I don't want to put it together piece
by piece.

You guys have always been the smartest group of people I know...
Would appreciate some input ;)

Hiya Tend, I am guessing you will get a reply from Remagi at least (the sucking up part probably wont hurt your chances of reply) as there have been a few threads like that lately.

I too am in the market for a new gaming rig, preferably under a grand that'll play most anything with all the shinies turned on :)

$1k? Challenge accepted.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product (or any cheap ass 1333 RAM, 8GB of it)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product (use this as the boot volume + some storage, then use whatever rotary as your second drive)

Comes out to $943 on newegg pricing at the moment. Your choice of 600W power supply should round it out, which would be enough for that video card.

thanks rem,

regarding the ssd, is it worth it for the extra cost even with the reduced storage capacity? I'm sure to you it's a noticeable thing but to a mid level casual gamer will i see a difference worth the extra cost?

Once you go SSD boot, you'll never go back.

So completely worth it it's not even funny. You will notice the difference immediately.

just curious, if i opted to spend a bit more on the i7 chip, is it worth it int he long run or barely noticeable when combined with all the other working parts?

Barely noticeable.

You're looking at about a 5-10% difference between the 2500 and 2600 in the best cases. With many games, like Left 4 Dead 2 on the page here, basically no difference. In WoW the difference was 1 fps.

I built almost this same system, minus the ssd drive. I have been looking at them, but Im wondering if you guys think sata III is enough of an improvement to justify the price difference. The comment I have seen most of the time is buy the best you can afford. I dont mind spending the money, I just want to make sure its worth the $90.00 difference.

Remagi, is there a reason you listed the Intel drive? This one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820227726 is slightly cheaper, and slightly faster according to the spec's.
