Going to see Harry Potter in IMAX?

Postby Adrienna » Wed Jul 08, 2009 11:41 am

If so, plan on waiting an extra 2 weeks because of the Transformers movie (which got a whopping 19% on RT and also had the honor of making in on Ebert's "Your Movie Sucks" file). I'll probably watch that when it comes to Netflix.

What are my fellow Harry Potter fans planning to do? I'll be waiting to catch the IMAX release at the Pacific Science Theater here in Seattle. I'm not worried about seeing it later since I already know Snape kills Dumbledore!

Michael Bay has literally no chance of making a decent movie, according to critics. That being said, I love being able to watch a movie in "brain off" mode, especially if it's something from my childhood. I enjoyed the new Transformers movie. It is what it is.

However I'm also forcing my wife to go see the new Harry Potter with me, so take that as you may.

I can't make myself go see a movie in Imax. $15 compared to $7.25 per ticket plus the gas it costs to go from Modesto, to either Dublin or Sac. Plus the theatre I go to is in Riverbank where no one lives and its DLP.

The IMAX here just sucks, it's only a slightly bigger screen. Nothing special, if you didn't tell me it was IMAX, I would never know, so no, I don't see the point in seeing the film in IMAX here.

I'm sure that's why the series has sold a total of more than 400 million books and why the first five films have grossed $1,411,108,038.

I saw The Dark Knight both in a regular sized digital theatre, and an IMAX. The IMAX version was definitely better quality picture, no doubt about it. The trade off though is probably higher priced tickets, inconvenient location, and less comfortable seating. YMMV~

Thus proving Adrienna that the world is fascinated by homosexuality!

LOL. :D

I guess I am also fascinated with homosexuality then, because I just love the books (the movies aren't bad either). :)

I have to admit that the first movie was probably my least favorite. I didn't really start enjoying the movies until Prisoner of Azkaban (#3). Might be because they fired the director from the first two. David Yates is directing Half Blood Prince. He also did Order of the Phoenix and will also be directing Deathly Hallows.

i'll be seeing the HP movie at a midnight showing most likely, IMAX is great, but really around here the screens are too big and i just can't stand only being able to watch the middle 60% of the screen most of the time.

picture quality wise, really i havent noticed a difference.

If you go to a DLP theatre is really doesnt make that big of a difference. I just can't stand watching any movie on film anymore. All the lines and spots on the screen ugh.

How funny Adrie, I thought the first two movies were probably the best, at least in that they seemed more like the books. Of course, the 3rd was probably the most exciting. I dunno, I've liked them all so far so it's not like I am dissing the other ones.
